Beyond science dreams
Doctor X makes research instruments that give scientists high time resolution at a precision that was not commercially available before. We specialize in ultrafast electron techniques for electron microscopy, crystallography, and spectroscopy.
Making the Invisible Visible
Ultrafast processes - events that unfold on femtosecond timescales - remained invisible for decades. These processes occur too fast to be captured by conventional instruments, leaving entire classes of physical, chemical, and biological phenomena effectively out of reach. Our technology changes that.
Doctor X instruments achieve superior time resolution in electron microscopy. Researchers can now observe phase transitions as they happen, watch phonons vibrate at terahertz frequencies, and capture photosynthesis dynamics at the molecular level. It’s like moving from photography to video at the atomic scale. Performance that previously required large accelerator facilities has been made available to research institutes and universities.
System
Structural Dynamics Probe

Single-shot ultrafast electron diffraction
The Structural Dynamics Probe is an instrument for capturing atomic-scale ‘movies’ of materials as they change. Point it at a sample, trigger a reaction with a laser pulse, and watch the atoms move frame by frame, with each frame lasting less than a trillionth of a second. The system fits in a standard laboratory.
